The Stone Sisters: selling homes and loving hockey

They’re two sisters with two common interests: a love for real estate and a passion for the Kelowna Rockets.

“We are fortunate to have the level of hockey we do here,” Tamara Stone told RocketFAN. Tamara is the sister of Shannon Stone, who make up the Stone Sisters real estate team. “The games are so exciting. When I am at a Rockets game, and we score, it just goes wild. I don’t know if there is another feeling like it. You feel together and a part of something bigger than yourself.”

The Stone Sisters should know something about winning. For 10 consecutive years, they have been voted the best realtors in Kelowna. This season they became the title sponsor of Kelowna Rockets hockey radio broadcasts on 104.7 The Lizard.

Shannon isn’t only a Rockets fan; she is a hockey mom with two boys involved in playing the game.

“My husband played hockey,” Shannon said, pointing out that he was a contributing factor in her kid’s gravitating to the sport. “He thought it was a big commitment to the family every weekend, and practices after school. We thought we would be a ski family, but as soon as our kids put on their skates, there was no turning back.”

Tamara says while she didn’t grow up knowing much about the game, she can see why her nephews have gravitated toward it.

“When I watched Shannon’s boys, there are so many valuable life lessons,” she said. “They learn how to pass the puck, so they learn how to share. They learn to celebrate wins and learn how to accept defeat.”

Many junior hockey players end up in the NHL, and call the Okanagan their off season home. Tyler Myers (Vancouver Canucks), Damon Severson (Columbus Bluejackets), and David Schultz (Seattle Kraken) are prime examples. Many play junior hockey here, end up dating a local girl, marrying and then raising a family in Kelowna.

“We get lots of people that contact us from Vancouver and Toronto looking for homes [here],” Shannon admitted. “Everyone raves about the lifestyle we offer. We are truly that four-season playground. Some people have gone downhill snow skiing and then ski on the lake the same day. There aren’t many places you can do that. We are lucky to live here.”

Like the Kelowna Rockets, who have increased their social media presence significantly over the years with the use of TikTok and Instagram, the Stone Sisters also go high-tech in an effort to sell homes to the buying public.

“I am older, so I like Facebook,” Tamara admitted with a chuckle.

“I think it allows you to connect with your clients, consumers and the general public in a different way,” Shannon added. “Tamara and I are lucky. We have so much fun together, so social media allows us that avenue to show our personalities and our quirky sides a bit more than just a ‘For Sale’ sign in front of a home.”

RocketFAN is thrilled the Stone Sisters came on board both this season and next as the title sponsor for Kelowna Rockets radio broadcasts, so we had to ask them both why they thought it would be a good fit.

“We like to wear head-to-toe white suits normally, for our meetings, our conferences, listing appointments, so it was a refreshing break to get into a Rockets jersey,” Tamara joked.

“We have had an affiliation with great companies, both are great people from both sides, so we felt it was a really good fit all around,” Shannon added.

“With the 104.7 The Lizard, 103.1 Beach Radio, and the Rockets…the Rockets are a pillar in our community, so we are very fortunate.”
