Rockets press release:

Kelowna Rockets forward Tij Iginla has undergone successful hip surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

“Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game,” said Rockets President and General Manager Bruce Hamilton. “We wish Tij a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him return next season.”

Regan’s Take: It is best to get the surgery now, so he has a full 10 months to recover. While the recovery time from hip surgery varies from person to person, it is suggested one can get back to regular activities within 6 months. Just today, Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin was shut down for the season and will undergo hip surgery. The Stars say he will be out between 4-6 months. Clearly, this surgery was approved by the NHL team that owns Iginla’s rights, the Utah Hockey Club, who signed him to a three-year contract upon drafting him in the first round of this summers draft. Something similar happened to Hunter Shinkaruk when he was playing with the Medicine Hat Tigers in December of 2013. A first-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks, Shinkaruk was cut by the Canadian World Junior team that year, and underwent surgery shortly after. Now 30, Shinkaruk plays pro hockey in Europe.

“Major Bummer” for that young man !! Rockets’ offensive ability will take a huge hit, the more so with Christal + Price away at camps ?. Rest of the boys will REALLY have to step up their games now!! 🙂
