‘It is a big four-points’ – Rockets AC Derrick Martin
While offensive firepower often takes the spotlight, defensive hockey has been key to the Kelowna Rockets’ recent success.
Despite ranking second in the Western Hockey League for goals scored on average, the Rockets secured a pair of wins over the Victoria Royals over the weekend through solid goaltending, defensive commitment, and timely power-play production.
The Rockets posted a 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon, just 18 hours after a 4-2 victory, with Jake Pilon standing tall in goal and Andrew Cristall scoring twice in the team’s 13th win of the season.
“I thought we started the first period with a lot more jam than they did,” said Rockets assistant coach Derrick Martin. “It isn’t an easy building to win in. They are a very good hockey team, but our group rose to the occasion and we didn’t come in looking for excuses.”
