Dynamic forward dealt
He was the most sought-after forward leading up to the Western Hockey League trade deadline, and now Andrew Cristall is officially a Spokane Chief.
The 19-year-old forward was traded this morning to the US Division team in exchange for two first-round draft picks (2025-2027), a second, a third, a sixth, and forward Hayden Paupanekis (Pa-pan-a-kiss).
Paupanekis, a 6’4″, 198-pound winger, has posted 11 goals and 13 assists in 39 games this season. At just 17 years old, he was a third-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft. He hails from Winnipeg. He is coming in hot, with four goals in his last five games when he makes his debut Friday against the visiting Prince George Cougars.
Cristall, who sits second all-time in Tacoma/Kelowna Rockets history with 340 points in 219 games, will join forces with Chiefs captain Berkley Catton, forming one of the most electrifying duos in the WHL. Throw in Shea Van Olm, and that’s as wicked of a line you will find in the league.
