Rockets GM chimes in on trade/Bedard appearance

Nov 29, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Not since Leon Draisaitl in 2015 with the Kelowna Rockets, have hockey fans in the Okanagan witnessed a gifted forward at Prospera Place.

Connor Bedard, the projected first player selected in the NHL draft this June, will bring his Regina Pats into town tonight in the first meeting between these two teams since the 2018-19 season.

“Connor Bedard is a human highlight reel”, Kelowna Rockets head coach Kris Mallette said. “The stuff he does is generational and you’re a guy that doesn’t want to be on the Sports Centre Top 10, you know he’s done a few of those to guys in our league.”

Bedard leads the WHL in points with 22 goals and 53 points in 24 games.

“Our challenge is that he’s one player on a team, we’ve gotta make sure we’re paying attention to detail”, Mallette added. “At the end of the day, we want to make sure that we’re the ones pushing the pace and making them come after us.”

Twenty-year-old Carson Golder will make his Kelowna Rockets debut tonight after being acquired in a trade with the Edmonton Oil Kings on Monday.

Regan Bartel spoke to GM Bruce Hamilton about the trade and Connor Bedard playing in front of a sellout crowd this evening.
