Kelowna Rockets Press Release:

The Kelowna Rockets announced today they have acquired 20-year-old defenceman Kayden Sadhra-Kang from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for overage defenceman Jackson DeSouza.

“A veteran in the league, Sadhra-Kang will provide additional leadership to our younger defencemen,” said Rockets president and general manager, Bruce Hamilton. “Jackson asked to be moved, it took a while, but we were able to accommodate his request. We thank him for his time as Rocket and wish him all the best moving forward.”

Sadhra-Kang has appeared in 27 games for Brandon this season, recording seven points (1G, 7A), a plus/minus rating of +6 and 30 penalty minutes. The 6’4, 208-pound right-shot defenceman has appeared in 158 games over the last four seasons, posting 41 points (5G, 36A), a +28 plus/minus rating, and 110 penalty minutes.

Regan’s Take: It is the third deal between the two teams in the last 11 months. This one comes after Trae Johnson was acquired for Nolan Flamand at last year’s January 10th trade deadline. The Rockets also acquired 19-year-old forward Ben Thornton from Brandon earlier this month. Sandra-Kang, whose father died when he was seven, is the step-son of Robin Bawa, a former Kamloops Blazers star. Sandra-Kang’s step brother is Prince George Cougars forward Arjun Bawa. Both Sandra-Kang and DeSouza play their old team when the Rockets visit the Wheat Kings on December 13th.

DeSouza has appeared in 15 games for Kelowna this year, posting seven points (1G, 7A), a +2 plus/minus rating and 31 penalty minutes. Over the last six seasons he has played in 151 games with Kelowna, posting 38 points (8G, 30A), a +5 plus/minus rating and 161 penalty minutes.

Sadhra-Kang is expected to join the Rockets this weekend when they hit the road, he will wear number 27.
