There’s a large flat-screen television, a handful of Bruce’s favourite photographs and plenty of reminders of the places hockey has taken him.

Two large leather chairs sit in front of Bruce’s desk that have likely hosted countless conversations over the years, including the kind of meetings where a trade gets discussed, debated and ultimately made.

You can almost picture a general manager sitting behind that desk, picking up the phone and trying to figure out how to improve his hockey team.

Among the photographs is one of Curtis, wearing an Edmonton Oilers jersey, from the one and only NHL game he played.

There are also lanyards from some of the more prestigious hockey events Bruce has attended over the years, reminders of the many times he has represented Canada internationally.

And then there’s a reminder of his Saskatchewan roots.

Sitting on a shelf behind Bruce’s chair is a Saskatchewan Roughriders football helmet.

It’s a collection of memories, accomplishments and a few pieces of home.

For over three decades, Bruce Hamilton has been the General Manager of the franchise, first in Tacoma, then in Kelowna, helping build the Rockets into one of the WHL’s model franchises.

Now Bruce has handed the GM title to his son.

But apparently, not the office.

Keep walking down an unassuming hallway, and you’ll find Curtis.

His workspace is considerably less spectacular. A small, cramped and unassuming office tucked away down the hall.

There’s no massive window overlooking Prospera Place.

Instead, there’s a small interior window that works both ways. Curtis can look out, and people walking by can look in.

For now, this is where Curtis Hamilton sits as he takes over one of the most important jobs in the organization.

And perhaps something is fitting about that.

Because Curtis Hamilton doesn’t need Bruce’s office to begin building his own legacy.

He’s been learning this business for years, often sitting just down the hall from the man who taught him so much of it.

When Curtis spoke with RocketFAN in May about working with his father, he acknowledged the unique dynamic that comes with being family and colleagues.

“It’s fun working with him,” Curtis said. “Obviously, there are good days and bad days because whenever you’re working with family, it makes it a little more complex at times.”

Bruce has also given Curtis increasing responsibility over the years.

“Bruce gives me quite a bit of freedom,” Curtis added, particularly when it comes to recruiting, trades, free agency and drafting.

That’s an important piece of this transition.

Curtis isn’t walking into the General Manager’s role for the first time.

He’s been preparing for it.

He has been part of the Rockets’ hockey operations department since 2022, learning the business alongside his father and Director of Player Personnel Terry McFaul.

Now, the title is his.

The office remains the same.

But the responsibility sitting on Curtis’ shoulders is very different.

For the first time, Bruce Hamilton is no longer the franchise’s General Manager.

His son is.

And somewhere down that hallway, in that small, unassuming office, the next chapter of Rockets hockey is getting underway.
